News from New Hampshire

20 degrees below zero - what else do you need to know? The people are crazy, there's nothing to do and I work 14 hours a day. Somebody kill me!

News from Los Angeles

80 degrees and sunny - but the traffic will drive you nuts. The script, Above Paradise, is being polish as we speak. A producer read it and is interested in helping us, Jon my writing partner on the piece, get an agent.

We need to finish the rewrite and send it off to the development producer at MGM. Then you wait, the worst part of the process.

The best thing to do is write and write and don't think about your work that's being read.

Can you work in the film industry and still earn a living wage?

That is the question someone asked me recently. Yes and no. The key to this question is the living wage. How much can you live on and still be happy?

Jobs in the film industry range from production assistants that make $100 dollars a day to a union Director of Photography that makes $800 a day, and that's only a small example of the jobs available.

The one fact you have to accept and deal with is that every job you get will only last a short amount of time. Sometimes from one day to a month or two. Most likely, you will be working a second job to support your passion for film. Sounds hard? It gets harder.

How do you find those jobs? Some people get lucky and fall into them and some go months without film work. When you do get production work, it can be answering phones, making coffee to doing security work. This is one of the reasons it's an advantage to start out young in the industry and work your way up.

Yes, you can be in your mid to late twenties and still get work, but do you want to be making copies at 25 years old?

You ungrateful, no good for nothing

Another reason not to get into the film industry - nobody cares about what you've done for them in the past, it's what you're going to do for me now.

I worked for free for two months for this management company in Beverly Hills. Two months of making copies. Two months of running errands. Two months of waking up at 8 in the morning and two months of answering phones.

I e-mailed them about leaving for New Hampshire and I get nothing in return. No thank you very much. No hope to see you soon. No good luck with your career.

Bastards! All of them!

Happy Chinese New Year!

The year of the Goat - this is the time of year where the Chinese party and celebrate the coming of a New Year. Hope the Chinese New Year brings you good health and joy.
