Synopsis
Amid a wintry day in Paris, Chinese “anti-fashion” designer Ma Ke, known for infusing a sense of time and nature
into her line, prepares her newly established brand "Wu Yong" (Useless) to be launched in a spectacular show.
Engulfed in the clatter of sewing machines, women work quietly under fluorescent lamps in a garment factory.
Bursting with the subtlety of everyday life, miners frequent a small tailor's shop in the town of Fenyang for repairs,
alterations, and vivacious chats. Three portraits of clothing and the people who design, manufacture, and wear them.
Jia's latest documentary uses this routine commodity as a focal point to expose the lives of people experiencing
different economic realities.
