Shin Ha-Kyun used to be a stage actor when he was in college. Later he moved to the film industry and became a successful comedy actor. In 2000, he rose to stardom with the success of Joint Security Area.

In 2001, he took his first lead role in Surprise. Right now, he is working on a sci-fi flick.
